Are you considering breast surgery? Breast augmentation is designed for people who want additional volume added to their breasts. At Cincinnati Plastic Surgery, Dr. Martin has performed many breast augmentation surgeries over the years and considers it one of his specialties. If you’re considering breast augmentation, there’s some things you’ll need to know before your surgery. By following these breast augmentation basics, you’ll have a better understanding of the surgery and how recovery will go.
Types of Implants
At Cincinnati Plastic Surgery, we mainly use two types of implants: saline implants and silicone implants. Ultimately, Dr. Martin will use his experience and the needs of you as a patient when determining the type of implant used in your surgery. Both types of implant are safe but last for different amounts of time. If longevity is a concern, you won’t need to worry about having to replace your implants every few years.
Placement of Implants
The placement of your implants is something else you’ll want to think about. Dr. Martin can either place the implant above the muscle or below the muscle. While Dr. Martin typically places the implant below the muscle, this is something you’ll discuss during your surgical consultation. If you have strong feelings one way or the other, it will be discussed during your consultation.
Combining the Surgery With Other Types
Breast augmentation can be performed as a surgery on its own. Additionally, it can also be a part of surgical packages. Sometimes, we may perform a combination breast augmentation and mastopexy. With the combination of implants and a mastopexy, we place the implants then work to provide a lift to your breasts. Remember, an augmentation only adds volume, so if you want higher placed breasts, a lift will help with that. Breast augmentation (or a combined augmentation and mastopexy) can also be part of a Mommy Makeover procedure, which is a customizable procedure for moms after they’ve had children.
When it comes to recovery, you’ll want to follow the post-op instructions given to you by Dr. Martin and the staff. This helps make sure that you’re healing at a proper pace, everything is going well with your breasts following surgery, and there’s no complications following surgery. You’ll want to take it easy in the days following surgery to avoid any complications.
Return to Normal Activity
You won’t be able to return to normal activity right away, especially since the first few days following surgery are designed to help you relax and recover from surgery. Over time, you can start to return to normal activity. Make sure to follow all protocols from Dr. Martin to find out when certain types of activity can resume.
